Chicago Wilderness

Chicago Wilderness is a regional nature reserve that includes more than 225,000 acres of the protected natural areas and it is a consortium of more than 230 organizations dedicated to preserving biodiversity in the region.


Forest Preserve Volunteers

The staff and volunteers of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County have a challenging and wonderful mission – restoring health and facilitating compatible use of 68,000 precious natural acres.  


Friends of the Chicago River

The mission of Friends of the Chicago River is to preserve, protect, and foster the vitality of the Chicago River for the human, plant, and animal communities within its watershed.  


Chicagoland Canoe Base

For over 60 years, the canoe base has worked to focus attention on our local waterways and the need to maintain and restore them as water trails. Responsible for the annual New Years Day trip down to the upper Chicago River and the annual Des Plaines River Canoe Marathon, now over 50 years old, the second oldest race in the nation.
